John C. Munnelly passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, after a brief illness.

John was born and raised in Brooklyn. he attended St Thomas Aquinas grammar school and Brooklyn Tech High School. His Irish Aunts wanted him to attend a Boys catholic High School, but Brooklyn Tech called him. We don’t think they ever knew that he purposely failed the Catholic School admission test but passed the test for Tech with flying colors.

While he only lived at 2 addresses in his life; he travelled the world as a Navigator with the Air Force Reserves and Air National Guard. He was stationed at Floyd Bennett Field, West Hampton, and Dover Air Force Base. John retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after 30 years of service.

John’s other jobs were clock repair, time clock maintenance, electrician for the Board of Education, electrician at Madison Square Garden. After retiring, John tried his hand at office work with the IRS, the Census Bureau, and the New York Blood Center. HIis best job, with the greatest payday, was as an Usher at the Marine Movie theater. This is where he met his beloved wife, Marianne, who was on a date with his friend Mike.

John and Marianne were devoted parents of Christine, Noreen, Mark and Aileen. They were proud grandparents of Peter, Emily and Jack. They were happy to have Pete as a son-in-law.

John was a member of the National Association of watch & Clock Collectors, Friends of the Library, The American Legion, The Marine Park Civic Association and The German Genealogical Group. He was proud of his Irish heritage and very devoted to constructing his family tree.

John loved spending time with his children. He spent many hours at The Brooklyn Museum, The Botanic Garden and exploring the neighborhoods of Manhattan. there were always wonderful family road trip vacations.

John was pre-deceased by his loving wife, Marianne, and his beloved son, Mark.

In lieu of flowers, we request donations to St John’s Bread & Life.
