Volunteer Appreciation

Last year St. John’s Bread and Life received over 17,000 hours of volunteer services. These 1800+ volunteers, ranging in age from 7 to over 80, allow us to serve the thousands of meals, keep our library open, greet our guests, distribute toys and food at Christmas and so much more.

There is and old saw that tells us that many hands make light work. Here at St.John's Bread and Life, many hands make wonderful work. The wonderful work of volunteers, without which Bread and Life would not be possible, was honored this past Thursday. St John’s Bread and Life hosted what may have been our first but definitely not our last Volunteer Appreciation Liturgy and Luncheon

The day began with a Prayer Service in St. John’s University, St. Thomas Moore Church. This prayerful and reflective liturgy captured the generous sprit of our volunteers. It focused on the reality that it is only through the works of service that the divine is made manifest. During her reflection, St. John's Bread and Life Board Chair, Sr. Margaret Fitzpatrick SC, highlighted that though our volunteers come from diverse backgrounds and experiences they make manifest this truth through their works of goodness, and dedication and commitment to St John’s Bread and Life. Following the Prayer Service, our volunteers attended luncheon hosted by the University in Bent Hall. Though just a small token of our appreciation, particularly in relation the tremendous gifts all our volunteers bring to Bread and Life, it was none-the-less a special day.
