THE CHALLENGE TO OUR WORK
Bread
and Life’s rented space in an antiquated, poorly maintained building
with an unheated dining room that was inadequate in condition and size,
and provided no possibility of improvement or growth to meet the
challenging demands of combating poverty.
OUR DREAM
Bread
and Life located a new site, 7 blocks from our current location.
Purchase and renovation of this building will enable us to expand our
emergency food services and achieve greater efficiencies to provide
more services to those most in need. Most importantly, we are now able
to better serve our guests in an environment which will reinforce their
innate dignity and worth. The enhancements we now provide include:
SPACE
– Overall increase from 7,600 square feet to 12,000 square feet
including new and improved kitchen, restaurant-style dining area and
more social service space
ADDED FACILITIES
– 2 reception areas, a cold storage room for the senior food pantry and
a demonstration kitchen for a food-prep training program
PROCESSES AND SYSTEMS
– a “client-choice” food pantry system and more space to streamline the
process of storage, loading and distribution of food for the Mobil Soup
Kitchen. The new site will also allow us to expand our library and
computer lab to allow our guests greater access to resources in the
areas of education, legal matters, benefits, housing and employment.
SPIRITUALITY - Creation of a spiritual space as we pursue our mission of feeding body, mind and spirit. |
